The JEITA Battery Run Time Measurement Method for Notebook PCs

The Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA)* has established the Mobile Computing Business Committee. This committee has been examining a standardized method for measuring battery run time in notebook PCs. The result of their efforts is the JEITA Battery Run Time Measurement Method, which is now being adopted.

When batteries are used in notebook PCs, much importance is placed on the battery run time. To date, the various PC manufacturers have been measuring battery run time by running benchmarks based on their own criteria. The results are published in product catalogs and the like.

In response to this trend, JEITA has prescribed the JEITA Battery Run Time Measurement Method. This method integrates major benchmark criteria such as luminous intensity of the display, CPU load, and hard disk drive load.

It is suggested that the various PC manufacturers adopt the JEITA Battery Run Time Measurement Method and publish their battery run times in their product catalogs and the like against this benchmark. This approach will allow purchasers of notebook PCs to easily compare the battery run time of the various PCs.

Below is a list of the PC manufacturers who have agreed to adopt the JEITA Battery Run Time Measurement Method at this time. It is expected that PC manufacturers will publish the results of this benchmark in their new product catalogs and the like beginning August 1.
